Institute of Rural Health

The Institute of Rural Health, established in 1989, is a university-based research, education, and service organization providing research, consultation, and technical assistance to governments and communities in the health field. Our work spans public health, health professions training, community programming, and mental health areas. The IRH is housed in the Kasiska College of Health Professions at Idaho State University.

The Institute of Rural Health has grown rapidly in the past several years, maintaining offices in Pocatello and Boise. The number of full- and part-time faculty, staff, and students has grown from fewer than 10 during our first eight years to nearly 70 in our 17th year. Our grant portfolio has grown from $2 million to more than $19 million with an annual budget of $5.5 million.
